- This collection of command files provides a collection of menus for
- accessing Telenet's PC-Pursuit. The command files presented here require
- PROCOMM Version 2.4.2. To use these command files, establish one or more
- entries in your dialing directory of the form:
-
- 41- PC-Pursuit xxx-xxxx 1200-E-7-1 N AI12A
- 42- PC-Pursuit yyy-yyyy 2400-E-7-1 N AI24A
-
- Where xxx-xxxx is your local Telenet access number for 1200 baud service and
- yyy-yyyy is your local Telenet access number for 2400 baud service.
-
- Using your favorite editor or word processor edit the command file named
- "A-MENU.CMD" to contain your Telenet account number and Telenet Password.
- PROTECT THIS COMMAND FILE AND NEVER MAKE IT AVAILABLE TO ANYONE. Give my
- command files to everyone but in the form I gave them to you. Otherwise you may
- end up financing the processing of some strangers.
-
- In this example: "alt-D 41" establishes a 1200 baud connection and invokes
- the PC-Pursuit main menu (A-MENU.CMD) "alt-D 42" establishes a 2400 baud
- connection and invokes the PC-Pursuit main menu (A-MENU.CMD)
-
- Even though full 2400 is not supported for PC-Pursuit, you can run the
- connection from your machine to the local node at 2400 baud. This raises the
- performance of PC-Pursuit file transfers but makes ascii text exchangers a little
- "choppy". With a 1200 baud modem you have no choice. With a 2400 baud modem
- you get to choose the one you prefer.
-
- When the main menu appears, you can specify as many cities as you desire as
- an example "TJA" would dial Atlanta and if busy then dial Los Angeles and if
- busy then dial San Francisco. Note that the dialing was in the order "AJT" even
- though you issues "TJA".
-
- Once a remote city is connected a menu for that city will appear. Again
- choose the possible connections in a list and they will be dialed in ascending
- order. When a connection is finally made, PROCOMM will no longer be executing
- a menu and you'll be on your own.
-
- When you log off a BBS in the remote city you can select another BBS in the
- same city by executing the menu for that city. As an example ... San Francisco
- would be "alt-F5" then select "A415A.CMD" and hit enter. When the city menu
- appears select as you did the first time.
-
- To switch to a new city simply invoke the main menu through a special entry
- that severs the current city connection. This is of the form "alt-F5" and then
- select "A-CITY.CMD" and hit enter. When the main menu appears select the city
- as you did the first time.
-
- Note that the reason for the odd command file names is that:
-
- 1. I use Norton's DS utility to sort the directories on my hard disk. I
- sort them as "DS EN \/S" which sorts by extension and then file name. The names
- of the command files end up with "A-CITY.CMD" as the first (i.e. default)
- command file. I only have to issue "alt-F5" and then hit enter to select the
- main menu.
-
- 2. The current implementation only allows 42 entries in each city menu.
- There is no reason why there couldn't be a large number of these menus for each
- city with an intermediate selector menu to get from one to the other. With this
- in mind, the city command files all end with an "A". Future expansion would
- allow "B", "C", ...
-
- This collection of PROCOMM command files is a repackaging of the work
- started by an unknown programmer in the BBS world an enhanced greatly by Bob
- Lake. My contribution was to make the menus and messages more pleasing (to me)
- and change the way that the menus are initially invoked. I don't expect (and
- won't accept) any money for my work in this area. I ask that you drop Bob Lake
- and me a message if you use his version or mine and just say that you use them.
- Bob's came out on Christmas day. The timing coincided with what I was doing and
- I spent most of New Years on my part.
-
- I hope you enjoy the automation.
